Concussion care and neck assessment have different roles

A concussion is a brain injury. A neck examination cannot replace medical concussion evaluation, monitoring, or guidance on returning to school, work, driving, or sport. Apex’s upper cervical focus provides a place to discuss associated neck discomfort or movement concerns when assessment is appropriate.

Headache, dizziness, and difficulty concentrating after an injury should not automatically be attributed to an upper cervical alignment finding. More than one problem may need attention, and the right care pathway depends on the whole clinical picture.

What to bring to your appointment

Tell us how the injury happened, when it occurred, which symptoms have changed, and what medical evaluation you have already received. Bring relevant reports, imaging, medication information, and instructions from your treating clinician. Ongoing or worsening symptoms should also be reported to that clinician.

Questions a cervical assessment can explore

Are there associated neck symptoms or movement limitations that warrant examination?
Do the history or findings call for additional medical investigation or referral?
What goals and reassessment measures would be appropriate if conservative neck care is considered?

We do not assume an adjustment treats the brain injury or repairs injured ligaments. CBCT or MRI referral is considered for a specific clinical indication; these tests are not automatic requirements, and a cervical scan does not establish concussion recovery.

When to seek urgent medical care

After a head injury, a worsening persistent headache, repeated vomiting, weakness, confusion, seizures, or difficulty waking requires emergency assessment. Call 911 for an emergency. See the CDC’s concussion danger signs.
